We’re so excited to be launching our new brand, Scandinavian Made! This is a tumblr blog (for those who see it on the Scandinavian Made webshop). It’s a blog that I’ve added content to about Scandinavian design, mostly kitchens, over time. Since there is so much delicious Scandinavian interior design in this blog, I’ve brought it over to the webshop.
Now, we will expand our posts and write more on Scandinavian interiors, ceramics, rugs, and other rooms in the home…including kitchens. After all, I have my rugs and ceramics in my kitchen too!
We are excited to launch this new brand, and it is a collective effort between myself, Susan Serra, and my daughter, Kelly Donovan. Please join our facebook page too!

This space makes me feel good.

Warm yet modern and nicely textured long seat/bench/sofa which I can see being used as dining seating in a breakfast room with a round, rectangular or custom shaped table. Nice look, simple design, by Magnus Olesen. Seen at the CODE11 show in Copenhagen.
Cool fresh interpretations of Arne Jacobsen’s iconic Series 7 chair by students of The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts as seen at the Copenhagen Design Week exhibition at the harbor in Copenhagen. Love to see what students come up with!
Here is a beautiful home west of Denmark where I visited a friend this past September. Beautiful classic Scandinavian interiors.
Some interesting finds at Code11, the Danish design exhibition that I attended in early September.
Your vote for Bornholm Kitchen would be greatly appreciated for this very prestigious award. But - vote because you love it :) Vote here
Lovely modern hand blown glass from http://www.balticseaglass.com/ in Bornholm, Denmark, situated with the sea and sky as a backdrop to illuminate the glass beautifully. What a wonderful place.
A wonderful art gallery in Bornholm, Denmark. Perfectly Scandinavian - light, simple, clean, modern and warm at the same time. I love the feel of this space and I love the artwork too.
Traditional Danish “relief” or ceramic mural designs in a simple, modern, charming style-photographed by me in the Bornholm airport. Small to large ceramic reliefs which tell a story visually are a traditional Danish object which I love very much. I own several.
I just got back from 10 days in Denmark, visiting Bornholm, Copenhagen, and surrounding areas. I took approx 5,750 images. I’ll be uploading random images which have inspired me. Hope you enjoy! These are images from an antique shop on Bornholm. See all four images!
The quintessential Scandinavian dining room - in this case, in the world famous restaurant, Noma, in Copenhagen. Mid Century Modern exquisite furniture is effortlessly at home with antique architecture, heavy texture and simple surroundings. From the blog Solid Frog.
Interesting mix of materials in this kitchen - zero storage, but I will assume a few things:
Here is a case where the desired aesthetic completely drove the design of the kitchen and trumped function. No judgment on that - I’d love a sort of fantasy kitchen solely designed around an aesthetic vision - that’s true luxury in one sense. From Rum magazine.
Just plain pretty, this Scandinavian style dining space makes me feel warm and cozy. I love the distinctive Scandinavian gateleg table. The bench is perfect as a foundation element against the wall, seemingly built in, anchoring the entire vignette. And the coral….a Happy color with a capital H! A dining area can make one want to linger, a nice attribute to create, and this one does.
I am also inspired by the centerpiece. I am going to go outside later, pick some random small flowering branches and place them casually in a vase of some sort. THAT is living well. Image by the magazine, Vakre.
