Taken at a fantastic handmade ceramics fair in Copenhagen, these images show how a decorative layer in a kitchen design can add texture, color, shape and form. Whether a few select pieces or a collection around the kitchen, ceramic art is a natural aesthetic connection to any kitchen design. Scandinavia has a rich history in outstanding ceramic design as these images illustrate.
Scandinavian kitchen design has defaulted to a soft modern style for many years, which is now a recent movement in American kitchen design.
I have been an enthusiastic visitor and student of kitchen showrooms during my travels to Copenhagen for at least 20 years and LOVE discovering fresh ideas to take back with me. There are often warm elements used in very modern kitchens in Scandinavia such as wood flooring, sometimes knotty and in wide planks, in a natural finish. (Image by Susan)

Here is one of my favorite looks in the world, a textured wallpaper (to cover flaws in very old plaster walls) that I’ve seen painted in every color of the rainbow in every type of space, residential and commercial, in every style Scandinavian kitchen, but it is particularly effective against the sleek surfaces (image by Flugger)
