In this small section of this kitchen, which was a small kitchen within the beautiful Dinesen showroom in Copenhagen, there are surprisingly quite a few elements that say “Scandinavian style” so well.
open shelving to hold useful items
white walls
simple lighting mounted on the backsplash
stainless steel fixtures, fittings, other items mixed with clear glass, white and black accents (adding an exciting punch)
light wood cabinetry
very thin, stainless steel countertop
modern faucet and sink
An abundance of rounded shapes and natural materials combined with light that bathes the surface adds warmth amid an elegant simplicity.

What’s Scandinavian about this image from the magazine DesignLiv? The flooring is wide planked wood with a light, natural finish, very common. Walls and ceiling are painted white, very Scandinavian, of course. The windows and beam add an old element, perfectly at home with the clean lines of the cabinetry. The green surface is soft and natural, the black is bold with a strong design statement. And, the trash can stands alone as a beautiful statement of function…very Scandinavian indeed.
